Change is Inevitable, Except with God

Change. A new year. A new job. A new semester. A new culture. A new season; a whole lot of getting used to. Very often, I find myself in these new situations and, before coming to terms with them, I make every conscious effort to fight it. I lie in bed at the end of the day, processing how the day went and comparing it to better days I’ve had. Comparing how much happier and more satisfied I was with myself, my thoughts, behaviour and my surroundings. I fall into a spiral of negative thought patterns and rationales which only feeds my dissatisfaction.

Why, at the beginning of every different season, do I find myself fighting against change only to be troubled and disappointed? Why fight it and be caught in the vicious cycle all over again?

Therefore, today, I challenge myself.

I challenge myself to embrace change as it hits me. Not to start off by comparing or debating with rationales in my head, hoping to find peace within myself. I challenge myself to make a conscious effort to remember that God is sovereign and knows best. Attempting to fight it and subconsciously convince myself that ‘I know better’ does not make the situation any different. Things will not return to its original state and without change, there will be no growth.

Change is inevitable, but God is never changing.

“God is not a man, that He should lie,

Nor a son of man, that He should repent.

Has He said, and will He not do it?

Or has He spoken and will He not make it good and fulfill it?” - Numbers 12:19
